Casa Pina, 58 Via Masseris
Located
in the small mountain village of Masseris, this holiday hideout provides a private
retreat, isolated from the rat-race of the modern world, yet less than
20 minutes from historic Cividale del Friuli and 1.5 hours from Venice. Romantic yet practical.
History and Healing
An ideal vacation spot for relaxing and escaping, and maybe some exploring too. Casa Pina is an excellent base camp for trips throughout this region of Europe. Hours away from some of the most-intriguing countries in the world--Austria, Slovenia, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, France, San Marino, etc., Casa Pina is also on the edge of WWI history and would appeal most to hiking and history fans. The Battle of Caporetto and the infamous battles of the Isonzo are walking distance on well-kept, scenic trails, cared for by members of the Italian Alpini Club. At the Museum in Kobarid, there is a corner dedicated to Ernest Hemingway whose novel, A Farewell to Arms reflects his time in this beautiful region, ravaged by war.
Hiking
For hikers there are hundreds and hundreds of miles of trails throughout this part of Italia and Slovenia. One of the day trips offered by our property managers, Anne-Marie and Carlo, is a half-day trip into Slovenia with lunch along the way. This particular adventure takes you over the mountain via the forest and into Slovenia with a stop at a mountian-top organic dairy where fresh cheese and wine are graciously offered and eagerly accepted. A treat reserved for locals but shared with friends visiting from away.
